Finally Home

“Do not be afraid”.

These are words that are said a lot in the story of Christ’s birth.  As the angels came to deliver the messages from God they often began with these words.

As we have watched the advent videos during the worship service when the angel comes to the people he is speaking to, they are driven to their knees.  Why does this happen?  Are they startled?  Are they afraid?  Is the wonder and glory so magnificent that it is hard for them to stand?  Maybe a little bit of all three.

PRAYER~

On Sunday, Ross spoke to us about the power of prayer. Since we know the Holy Spirit hears our prayers, it made me ask the question, "So, what do we pray about?". On the subject of World Missions, every major movement of the Gospel in history began with an exorbitant amount of prayer... So, why don't we pray more.

FIVE SECONDS

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.  What is your life?  You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.   Instead you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”  As it is, you boast and brag.  All such boasting is evil.  Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.     James 4:13-17

Reflections

On Sunday morning, Eric shared a great sermon on the Word of God in the life of a follower of Jesus. His sermon entitled, “Eat This Book”, was part of the Unless the Lord builds the house …those who build it labor in vain series on discipleship that our pastors are preaching from this fall.

Two things that Eric said in his sermon on Sunday morning spoke to me and emphasized a weakness in my life that I continually need to work on and be aware of; maybe these points spoke to you too. The first statement was something like this -- and I paraphrase.

Moment in Mission From Ethen

I have been home for about a month already and it has been such a good time of relaxing and processing. Processing what has happened and processing the next steps for me. As some of you know, I am coming off of a 4 month outreach with Island Breeze. We spent most of the time in South Korea and then we spent about 5 weeks in the Philippines. It still amazes me every time I go on outreach, the faithfulness of God, seeing Him show up every single day. We had a total of 5 weeks in the Philippines, with 4 of those being full on ministry.

You Will Be Like God

“You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”  Genesis 3:4

It was paradise.  Adam and Eve had everything that they would want.  God was there with them.  But he told them to not eat of the one tree, tree of knowledge of good and evil, “for when you eat of it you will surely die”.

The Sacrificial Life

If you are like me, you love to read stories about the faith of those who have gone before us and have given their lives for the gospel. They have sacrificed everything…their possessions, family, safety, and often times their very lives. In Mark 10:29 Jesus says, “Truly, I say to you there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.”

CONNECT EXISTS FOR YOU - connectgroups

This past Sunday you heard a presentation on this year’s Small Group initiative called CONNECT. We are excited to offer this opportunity to everyone at EVERMORE.

  • Connect Groups provide an opportunity to experience AUTHENTIC CONNECTIONS that don’t typically happen on a Sunday at church. The fellowship offered in these small group settings allows for deeper connections to others who are familiar with the stage of life you are in!
