We started our annual Baby Bottle Campaign yesterday (2/3)!!! Debra Martin gave a great presentation updating us about the services offered by Pregnancy Choices’ (PC) and ways you can get involved.
As I watched TV4DADS: Alaskan Adventure on Right Now Media, I was drawn to the adventure in the season three episodes as the men fished for sockeye salmon, halibut, grayling and trout. Each episode also contains biblical teaching on virtues for men.
So, his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing. For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.” For not even his brothers believed him. John 7:3-5
What is going on with Jesus’ family? Jesus is being hunted by the Jews in Judea. They want to kill Him and yet his brothers are encouraging Him to go to Judea. You can just feel the sarcasm as their dislike for Jesus becomes evident.
We have begun yet another year. Aside from our own personal resolutions, we should be asking ourselves, “how can I pray more effectively this year?” As faithful followers of Christ, this should give us pause to be still and focus on the Lord and His purposes. If we truly desire to see God’s Kingdom come, WE MUST PRAY for the world that God loves so much. After all, “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” (James 5:16). Be encouraged as it is Jesus who makes us righteous (for all those who believe in Him), making our prayers powerful!!!
In his book, In the Manger, Max Lucado described the Christmas season as magical and then wrote, “It’s Christmas night. In a few hours the cleanup will begin-lights will come down; trees will be thrown out. Size 36 will be exchanged for size 40; eggnog will go on sale for half price. Soon life will be normal again. December’s generosity will become January’s payments and the magic will begin to fade.”
We’ve heard the story of Christmas for so long, that the depth of its meaning can easily be lost. In an effort to get a new glimpse of the Christmas story, I try to read the scriptures in different versions, look at different commentaries and read books. I sometimes try to focus on a different character in the story. This year, the Wise Men caught my attention.
I love the Christmas season! The house is decorated. There is a steady flow of good food (with plenty of sweets). The holidays can be such a good time of year if we take the time to enjoy them. With so much going on, be encouraged that it is OK to slow down and smell the
“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:11-13
(Spoiler ALERT. If you’ve never seen the movie, don’t read this.)
