I personally would like to thank Evermore, on behalf of the team who just returned from Nicaragua, for your prayers for us while we were serving there. Many of you may not know about our ministry - Siete Sur Ministries, Inc. (a 501c3 faith based non-profit organization). We have been serving in Nicaragua for the last 18 years in the area of Siete Sur, a suburb of the capital city, Managua. We now travel there approximately three to four times a year.
Our ministry is based upon the passage in 1 John 3:16-18: “This is how we know what love is; Jesus Christ laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”
The poverty in Nicaragua is almost overwhelming, when we look at the scope of poverty that is an every day reality for so many living there. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, just behind Haiti. We as a ministry build new wood framed sheet metal homes for families that desperately need them. Many parts of Nicaragua do not have a reliable supply of drinking water. We install large 1,800-liter water tanks for families to draw from when their water is off for long periods. And yet, Nicaragua seems to have a never-ending supply of the cutest children one could ever imagine. For many of them a good meal is too often few and far between. We run a weekly feeding program for approximately 50-60 children every Sunday, where they can come and hear about Jesus in Sunday School and get a good meal.
Over the years we have had the privilege of building three churches in Nicaragua, working with the pastors through door to door visitation, distributing Bibles and tracts, and celebrating many Christmases with—yes—Santa Claus, games, and gifts for the children. The Door of Salvation is the name of the first church that we built and is pastored by Alvaro Palacios. Pastor Alvaro runs our feeding program and has a wonderful heart for serving those in his community.
Recently Pastor Alvaro introduced us to Pastor Alberto Vallesillo, who asked us if we as a ministry would prayerfully consider constructing a new church building for his congregation of approximately 50-60. The congregation owns the land on which they meet - a rarity for many congregations in Nicaragua. During the rainy season it is often impossible to have church due to the lack of a building to meet in. The wood framed, sheet metal covered building would be sized at 48’x26’ and cost approximately $10,000. We are considering this project during the month of July 2019. If anyone is interested in more information on this project or would like to help financially, please feel free to contact me. We ask for and value your prayers for wisdom, safety and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
