I would like you to take a moment, get quiet, and read Philippians 1:1-11…
Philippians 1 - Greeting
1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thanksgiving and Prayer
3 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. 7 It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace,[d] both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. 8 For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
I just wanted to take a moment to tell y’all something that I'm thankful for in reference to this Scripture. I am thankful for the body of Christ, which means I'm thankful for you just like Paul was thankful for his fellow believers. I just wanted to be able to say that to the body of believers that gather here at Evermore.
Allow me to express personally how thankful that I am for each one of you. Thankful for your prayers. Thankful for your encouragement. Thankful for the way that you serve. I am not just thankful for how you serve this church, but lost people as well. You do serve the body of Christ, and we see you also serve those that don't know Christ the way that you do.
I am thankful that you bring your kids here and that you bring your friends here. You bring your neighbors and your family members here TO HEAR THE GOSPEL, AND SHARE THE GOSPEL.
Verse 5 said specifically, “because of your partnership in the gospel.” I want to be clear…I'm thankful for this partnership in the gospel that we have with all of you! We are a priesthood of believers, and I'm very thankful for being partners with you all in the gospel. We're a family here at Evermore and I hope you feel part of it. If you don't, let's work at ways to make you feel more a part of this family (even during this crazy time in history).
I want to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. But, before we take time to share Thanksgiving and eat turkey with our families and friends, I want you to reflect on the fact that I (we) are thankful for you.
God bless you!
